100% Garnatxa (Grenache) from Marco Abella's highest vineyards sites, up 650m+ above sea level. Famed for its red slate rock from which the wine takes it's name this is serious Priorat. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels before bottling it's a complex array of cranberries, strawberries, dreid rosemary and candied fruit. A great wine to cellar for a number of years.
The Marco Abella family have been producing wines in the Priorat region since the 15th century, with seven plots across the seven different mountains in the region at some of the highest altitudes. Farming using organic methods and only ever fermenting using indigenous yeasts before ageing their wines in their own cellars several metres below ground level.
Try this with herb crusted BBQ lamb chops and simply cooked potaotes with lashings of butter.
