This is a delicious expression of Pinot Noir. Bright strawberry and cherry notes lead the way with some delicious savoury character and good minerality. With intense flavours and a light-medium body this is designed to be drunk easily and could be served with pigeon or duck, but also pairs well with mushroom based dishes.

The family owned and operated estate Hanewald-Schwerdt was founded in 1955 in Leistadt. Today Thomas Hanewald looks over the family buisness which was established by their grandfather. They focus on Riesling and Pinot Noir. The secret of their handcrafted wines is a unique limestone reef which dominates all the sites arround Leistadt. A hidden treasure away off the beaten track. The vines are old and surrounded by a protected natural resort in the shade of the Haardt mountains.
Hanewald-Schwerdt's estate Spätburgunder comes from vineyards in Leistadt and Bad Dürkheim, planted on limestone-rich soils. Vines are up to 30 years old. Leistadt grapes contribute a cooler, more delicate character, while Bad Dürkheim fruit adds body, ripeness, and tannic grip. Together, they create a charming and nuanced wine.
How it’s made:
- Spätburgunder grapes grown on calcareous marl and loess soils at 220 m altitude
- Open maceration fermentation followed by malolactic conversion
- Aged in a mix of large wooden vats and French oak barriques (20% new oak)
- Traditional methods to preserve freshness and complexity
