The Bacchus 2022 is bright and fresh on the nose and jumps out of the glass with sherbet lemon, elderflower and rose petal aromas that move to a zingy palate with a saline and tropical pineapple finish and a layered texture which reflects the detailed blending and multiple winemaking techniques that have been carefully applied to produce this wine. The palate is crisp but not too acidic with a lovely balance from the ripe and the natural flavours of the grape variety. It has the signature texture that Flint Bacchus usually displays but this vintage did not see any oak.
This wine can be drunk now and enjoyed on a hot Summer’s day or paired with foods such as chalky cheeses, seafood (fish and chips works well!) and asparagus.
"This is a lovely fresh white from Flint, who have really made strides forward with their latest vintage. There's an immediately appealing fruitiness but it is subtle and light like a Sancerre too. A wine that you can enjoy effortlessly but also rewards attention. I'd have this with haddock and asparagus."
Flint winemaker Ben Witchell likes to extract as much complexity and flavour from the Bacchus grape as possible. He does this by picking fruit from different vineyards at different times and handling the individual lots of grapes according to their ripeness levels. Blended across over 8 individual components resulting in a layered example of Bacchus.
Picked from multiple parcels of Bacchus from their own vineyards and Martin’s Lane in Essex. Individual batches of fruit were pressed under nitrogen, either as whole bunches (31%) or crushed berries (69%), and fermented in stainless steel using different yeast strains and fermentation temperatures. No sugar additions were made and malolactic fermentation was blocked to leave a fresh, perfumed and linear wine.
