Tasting Note

A smooth, deeply concentrated wine from the south of France using the Tannat grape blended with Cabernet Sauvingnon. The nose has intense blackcurrant, cherry and liquorice. The palate is richly spiced with oak, tobacco, leather and truffle flavours adding complexity to the fruit. There's lots of tannic structure and controlled power culminating in a long, elegant, dry finish. We recommend decanting this prior to serving.

This wine really comes into its own with food and would be delicious with a rack of lamb.

Alain Brumont has built up one the most highly regarded estates in the south western French appellation of Madiran over the last 30 years. Among his properties is Montus, situated near the town of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse.

Château Montus benefits from a superb terroir, unique in the Southwest, consisting of steep slopes with large pebbles on top of fine clay from the Pyrenees. Nicknamed the Petrus of the Southwest by some wine critics for 30 years now, Château Montus expresses all the characteristics of these exceptional terroirs

The wine is a blend of 70% Tannat and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is fermentated in wooden vats. Maturing on the lees for 12-14 months in 60-80% new barrels
